John Byrne

John has over 34 years of professional experience in the Canadian and International health systems. John’s illustrative career began in Newfoundland as Coordinator of Canadian Red Cross Aquatic Programs, progressing seamlessly, coincident with his lifelong formal executive education in management, through increasingly demanding and responsible roles. In Newfoundland and Labrador, John served as Director of Public Relations, Director of Divisional and Community Affairs, Director of Field Services, and Commissioner of Canadian Red Cross Society ~ Newfoundland and Labrador. Transferring to Nova Scotia, John assumed the position of Director, International Service ~ Canadian Red Cross. Shortly thereafter, John was appointed Regional Director of the Canadian Red Cross, and subsequently, appointed as Director General, Canadian Red Canadian ~ Atlantic Zone. John’s exceptional results-oriented management and leadership skills, his common sense approach to any problem, from small to large, from local community to international stage, is widely recognized and valued.
John has received innumerable citations and awards including, but not limited to, United States of America Consulate General’s Award [Outstanding Leadership in Response to Swiss Air Flight 111], Office of the Premier of Nova Scotia Citation [Humanitarian Assistance Rendered to Stranded Passengers ~ Terrorism Attack New York City September 2001], Canadian Citizenship and Immigration [Exemplary Commitment to ‘Operation Parasol’ Kosovo Refugees]. John has assumed major leadership roles for innumerable international disaster relief efforts from Newfoundland, Indonesia and Kosovo to Turkey and beyond. John’s exceptional leadership and proven record of strategic and logistics planning and implementation are recognized internationally.
